LSU’s football program has made a significant move in bolstering its defensive coaching staff, as Head Coach Brian Kelly announced the hiring of Corey Raymond, Kevin Peoples, and Jake Olsen. This strategic move is aimed at enhancing the team’s defensive prowess in upcoming seasons.

Corey Raymond, a familiar face in LSU’s football narrative, returns to the team after a two-year tenure at Florida. His previous stint at LSU, spanning over a decade, was marked by exceptional success, mentoring seven first-team All-Americans and four first-round NFL Draft picks. Raymond’s expertise as a secondary coach is expected to fortify LSU’s defense remarkably. Alongside Raymond, Kevin Peoples joins the team to coach edge rushers. Peoples, who comes from a successful two-year period at Missouri, brings over three decades of coaching experience. His recent achievements include leading Missouri’s defense to a remarkable 11-win season and a top-ten finish in 2023, highlighted by a notable Cotton Bowl victory over Ohio State.

The trio is completed with Jake Olsen, who will take charge of the safeties. Olsen’s return to LSU, where he previously coached linebackers in 2021, follows a successful tenure at Missouri. Working closely with LSU’s defensive coordinator Blake Baker, Olsen has been instrumental in Missouri’s defensive success. His deep understanding of Louisiana’s football landscape, having worked with various state teams, adds a local dimension to LSU’s coaching strategy.
