LSU Edges No. 9 Ole Miss 29-26 in Overtime Thriller
By Milton Manningham, LSU Football Contributor
In a heart-pounding finish, No. 13 LSU stunned No. 9 Ole Miss with a 29-26 overtime victory, led by Garrett Nussmeier’s clutch performance. Nussmeier threw a game-tying touchdown to Aaron Anderson in the final seconds of regulation and followed with a 25-yard strike to Kyren Lacy on LSU’s first play of overtime, securing the Tigers’ first lead of the game. This thrilling win lifts LSU to 5-1 (2-0 SEC) and reignites their College Football Playoff hopes, while Ole Miss (5-2, 1-2 SEC) faces a major setback in their pursuit of a conference title.

Despite struggling early with two interceptions, Nussmeier rallied when it counted, finishing with 337 yards and three touchdowns, including the game’s last two crucial throws. LSU’s defense played a pivotal role, sacking Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart six times and limiting the Rebels to just 26 points—well below their 44-point average. Zy Alexander’s end-zone interception of Dart in the fourth quarter kept LSU within reach, setting the stage for Nussmeier’s late-game heroics.
Ole Miss started strong, building a 10-0 lead behind a 49-yard field goal and a 50-yard touchdown run by Ulysses Bentley IV. However, key missed opportunities, including a dropped deep pass by Tre Harris and a turnover on downs at the LSU 5-yard line, haunted the Rebels. LSU capitalized with timely field goals and a resilient defense, handing Ole Miss its second SEC road loss and elevating LSU’s profile in the national conversation.
