LSU Injuries Starting to Mount Up as Key Players Sidelined for the Season

By Milton Manningham, LSU Football Contributor

The injury bug has bitten the LSU Tigers hard this season, with key players now sidelined for the long haul. Sixth-year senior running back John Emery is the latest casualty, having suffered a torn ACL during practice last Tuesday. Emery, who has been a consistent contributor throughout his LSU career, underwent surgery last week and has already begun the rehabilitation process.

The Tigers lose a seasoned backfield presence in Emery, who rushed for 121 yards on 23 carries this season, bringing his career totals to 1,062 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. With his absence, LSU will rely heavily on Josh Williams, Kaleb Jackson, and true freshman Caden Durham to carry the load, while freshman safety Ju’Juan Johnson has also been shifted to running back to bolster depth.

Adding to the Tigers’ woes, defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory suffered a torn Achilles during Saturday’s game against Nicholls State, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2024 season. Guillory, a fifth-year senior who had recently been named the best defensive tackle on the team by head coach Brian Kelly, leaves a significant void in the middle of LSU’s defense. With Guillory now out, the pressure falls on Jay’Viar Suggs, Gio Paez, Ahmad Breaux, Shone Washington, and Dominick McKinley to step up and stabilize the defensive line as the Tigers prepare to enter SEC play against South Carolina.

LSU’s injury troubles don’t stop there, as wide receiver Chris Hilton has been sidelined with a foot injury, leaving his status for upcoming games uncertain. Despite these setbacks, the Tigers are focused on regrouping and adjusting their game plan as they prepare to face a tough SEC schedule. The health of the team will be a major concern moving forward, with several players on the mend and others out for the season. LSU’s depth will be tested as they aim to stay competitive in the challenging conference ahead.
