LSU’s Second-Half Collapse Fuels Texas A&M’s 38-23 Victory

By Milton Manningham, LSU Football Contributor

In a pivotal SEC clash, Texas A&M stunned No. 8 LSU, storming back in the second half for a 38-23 victory. Backup quarterback Marcel Reed came off the bench with game-changing energy, delivering three rushing touchdowns and leading the Aggies to an impressive win on the road.

The Aggies’ seventh straight victory, which keeps them undefeated in SEC play, highlighted the resilience of Coach Mike Elko’s squad as they capitalize on each opponent’s mistakes and make a strong case for the conference title.

LSU held a 10-point lead midway through the third quarter before unraveling under pressure. A key turning point came when A&M’s BJ Mayes intercepted a pass, setting up Reed’s first touchdown on the next play to close the gap to 17-14.

LSU’s woes compounded when a botched field goal snap and three second-half interceptions from Garrett Nussmeier gave A&M multiple opportunities to score. Reed capitalized, scoring three times on the ground, propelling the Aggies to their first 5-0 SEC record as they chase their first conference championship berth.

The loss delivers a heavy blow to LSU’s title aspirations, as Coach Brian Kelly acknowledged critical errors that opened the door for A&M’s comeback.

While the Aggies appear to have found a new offensive leader in Reed, the Tigers face an uphill battle to salvage their season. For Texas A&M, this win likely boosts their standing, while LSU may slip in the polls as they work to address glaring inconsistencies.
