Veteran NFL cornerback Darius Slay was recently claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Bills, but there’s a chance he won’t report to the team. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Slay is unsure whether he wants to continue playing in the NFL and will make a decision soon.
“Slay is honored that a first-class organization like the Bills claimed him, but he is going to take some time away from football right now and decide in the next few days if he wants to keep playing,” Slay’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told Schefter.
The Pittsburgh Steelers waived Slay on Tuesday, and the Bills claimed him on Wednesday. As mentioned byTom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Slay was a healthy scratch by the Steelers in their game on Sunday, and he has struggled all year. Slay mentioned that this season would be his final year in the NFL, so with just a few weeks remaining, it’s possible he could call it a career before officially joining the Bills.
The Steelers signed Slay this past offseason. The former Mississippi State star played in 10 games for the Steelers and registered 36 tackles, three passes defended, and one fumble recovery.
Darius Slay has had a strong NFL career
Before heading to Pittsburgh, Slay spent the last five seasons playing for the Philadelphia Eagles. During his time in Philadelphia, the 34-year-old was named to the Pro Bowl three times and helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl last season.
