Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas is putting together quite an MVP resume for herself, and added to it on Friday night in an 81-72 win over the Golden State Valkyries. It was during that win that Thomas recorded a triple-double, finishing with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 16 assists to lead the Mercury to their 22nd win of the season. Not only was it the 17th triple-double of her career, it was also her sixth of the 2025 season. The latter number ties a single-season WNBA record that was set by… her back in 2023. That win moves the Mercury back into a tie with the New York Liberty for the fourth spot in the WNBA standings. On an individual level, Thomas is absolutely at the center of the MVP race in the league. She will have some fierce competition from Las Vegas’ A’ja Wilson and Minnesota’s Napheesa Collier. Wilson and Collier are better scorers this season, but Thomas is leading the league in assists per game (8.9, nearly three more than the next closest player) and is in the top three in rebounds.
