Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons has formally requested a trade, he announced Friday on social media. Parsons requested the trade after contract negotiations with the Cowboys reached an impasse.
“Unfortunately, I no longer want to be here,” Parsons wrote. “I no longer want to be held to closed door negotiations without my agent present. No longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization, our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me.
“… I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to [Cowboys CEO] Stephen Jones personally.”

The Cowboys have no intention of trading Parsons, per Dianna Russini of The Athletic. Hours before Parsons submitted his official trade request, Russini reported that Parsons was considering taking “drastic measures which could include a trade request.”
Parsons, 26, is entering the final year of his rookie deal. The two-time All-Pro pass rusher revealed that he initially approached the Cowboys about a contract extension after the 2023 season. Dallas “did not want to start any negotiations at that point.” Fast forward to this past March, Parsons met with Jones to talk about leadership. Parsons said the conversation shifted into a discussion about his contract. He informed Jones that his agent, David Mulugheta , would reach out.
When Mulugheta reached out, he was told the deal was “pretty much already done” — this wasn’t the case. From there, the Cowboys “went silent,” according to Parsons.
“Up to today, the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract,” Parsons said. “Not one demand has been made by my agent about money, years or anything else.”
