Micah Parsons injury update: Packers HC Matt LaFleur 'certainly hopeful' star LB plays in Week 1

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said Wednesday he is “certainly hopeful” that linebacker Micah Parsons will play in Sunday’s Week 1 home contest against the Detroit Lions. Parsons, acquired last Thursday from the Dallas Cowboys, has been dealing with a back injury.

“We’ll see,” LaFleur said, via 97.3 The Game. “I mean, he’s doing everything in his power [to play]. He’s rehabbing hard. We’ve got to get through a couple practices to see how he responds, to see how he does. Certainly hopeful.”

Micah Parsons trending towards playing in Week 1 vs. Lions?

Adam Schefter of ESPN previously reported that Parsons could require an epidural injection to help him play in Week 1. Parsons’ agent,  David Mulugheta , said Tuesday they will wait till the weekend to determine if he needs the shot. Mulugheta added Parsons’ back is “doing much better.”

“His back is doing much better,” Mulugheta said on First Take . “He was prescribed some anti-inflammatory steroids or something of sort by the Cowboys, which he’s been on for almost a week now. If that doesn’t get him to a point where he can get on the field, I know Micah’s going to do everything he can to get on the football field for the Packers.
