Micah Parsons made his debut with the Green Bay Packers this afternoon. It was also his debut in the NFC North, with him looking forward to playing one of the division’s top tackles for many more seasons to come.
Following the 27-13 win for the Packers, Parsons commented on the matchup with OT Penei Sewellof the Detroit Lions. He enjoyed the matchup with him and their offensive line throughout the course of today’s opener, with it being the first of many meetings of Parsons-Sewell over the next few years in the NFC North.
“I just feel like, to start the game off, it was just like, you know, Penei, Penei, Penei. And, it’s just Micah, you know what I mean? So, I just feel like I embraced the matchup and, you know, you got to win those matchups,” said Parsons. “And then, later on in the game, they gave me my respect, came back with the chips, the slides and that’s the type of respect that is warranted. But you got to earn it out there on the field. You know, I got to go show them that I can beat their best, and that’s what happened.”
“But, you know, that’s going to be a rivalry for the next four or five years. I’m not gonna be able to get rid of him. He’s a hell of a player,” Parsons said. “I told him, I said, ‘You’re my new rivalry now. Like, I don’t got Lane (Johnson) no more. It’s going be you. I’mma see you twice a year, so we might as well buckle up. It’s going to be a long one.’”
Parsons had an alright first game as a Packer. He had a tackle and a sack for a tackle for loss and a quarterback hit in the two-score win over the Lions, beginning the year with a win that’ll go on their divisional record as well. It was his first action of the past few months, though, having been dealing with a back issue, meaning better performances should be coming as he gets more comfortable with his new defense.
