New Orleans Saints Complete UDFA’s List & Breakdown

By Nile Carpenter, Saints Contributor

The New Orleans Saints have made their mark post-draft by signing a select group of undrafted free agents (UDFAs) to complement their roster.

While their 2025 UDFA class is smaller than in years past, it includes players with intriguing potential who could fill depth needs or carve out specialized roles. This strategic approach reflects the Saints’ intent to focus on quality over quantity as they address key positional gaps.

Highlighted Signings
One of the standout signings is Alabama punter James Burnip, a refined talent with the ability to flip field position and limit returns, vital for a defensively oriented team like the Saints. Burnip’s experience as a holder adds further value, making him a versatile addition to the special teams unit.

Another intriguing pickup is Delaware running back Marcus Yarns, whose 4.45 speed at the combine makes him a potential change-of-pace back. Although undersized for between-the-tackles running, Yarns’ elusiveness and potential as a pass-catcher offer significant upside.

Defensively, the Saints bolstered their interior with Tennessee’s Omari Thomas, a seasoned SEC tackle who adds depth to the defensive line, and Wake Forest’s Jasheen Davis, an edge rusher with physicality and grit. South Dakota State’s Dalys Beanum and UTSA’s Elliot Davison strengthen the secondary, showcasing the team’s commitment to building a dynamic and flexible defense.

These signings align with the Saints’ philosophy of developing raw but promising talent.

Key Positional Depth
Offensively, the Saints addressed their line with South Carolina‘s Torricelli Simpkins and Kansas State‘s Easton Kilty. Both linemen offer positional versatility and potential for development, crucial for maintaining offensive consistency.

SMU’s Moochie Dixon and Chris Tyree add speed to the receiving corps, with Tyree’s versatility as a former running back turned slot receiver presenting an intriguing wildcard for creative offensive schemes.

The Saints’ 2025 UDFA class underscores their focus on enhancing special teams, building defensive depth, and adding speed to their offense. While these players face an uphill battle to make the final roster, their diverse skill sets offer exciting possibilities for both immediate impact and long-term development.
