In the lead-up to Sunday’s highly anticipated matchup against the Tennessee Titans, the New Orleans Saints have had their share of injury concerns. Wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith, who has been battling a groin injury, has officially been ruled out for the game. This news comes as no surprise, as Smith hasn’t seen the practice field since the early days of August and reportedly underwent a procedure during that time. With a healthy receiving corps that includes Chris Olave, Michael Thomas, and Rasheed Shaheed, Smith would have likely found himself as the fourth or fifth option even if he were available.
In addition to Smith’s absence, running back Kendre Miller is also expected to miss the game. Miller has been sidelined since late August, and his chances of making his NFL regular-season debut seem increasingly remote. With star running back Alvin Kamara serving a suspension for the first of three games, the Saints will turn to Jamaal Williams as their primary backfield option. The uncertainty surrounding Miller’s availability may force the Saints to consider calling up Tony Jones or Jordan Mims from the practice squad to provide depth in the running back position.
On the special teams front, the Saints will be without the services of J.T. Gray, a key contributor on their special teams unit. Gray has been ruled out for the game due to a shoulder injury, leaving the Saints to adjust their special teams strategies as they prepare to face the Titans. Despite these injury setbacks, the Saints remain determined to put up a strong fight as they kick off their regular-season campaign against a formidable opponent in the Titans.
