The New Orleans Saints have fortified their linebacker depth with the addition of Cory Littleton to their practice squad, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. This strategic move follows Littleton’s recent release from the Houston Texans, where he briefly contributed on special teams. The acquisition of Littleton provides the Saints with an experienced player eager to re-establish himself within the league and possibly contribute to the team’s defensive strategy as the season unfolds.
A seasoned professional, Littleton’s career arc has been one of undulating fortunes since he entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He carved out a significant role for himself with the Los Angeles Rams, where he peaked as their leading tackler in the memorable 2018 NFC Championship game. After his time with the Rams, Littleton went on to have stints with the Las Vegas Raiders and Carolina Panthers, amassing substantial experience with 542 tackles, 9.5 sacks, and 6 interceptions in a total of 110 game appearances.
The Saints’ signing of Littleton may well be a savvy tactical play. His familiarity with the Saints’ play style — having faced them in Week 6 as a Texan — will serve him well as he acclimates to the team’s defensive playbook. With his track record of solid performance and versatility, Littleton stands ready to enhance the Saints’ special teams and defensive depth, and perhaps once again become a pivotal player as he has been in past seasons.
