The New Orleans Saints have taken another step toward building their roster for the 2023 NFL season by announcing the signing of several players to their practice squad. This move comes as part of the team’s ongoing efforts to fine-tune their lineup and prepare for the challenges of the upcoming season. Executive Vice President and General Manager, Mickey Loomis, revealed the names of the players who have been granted practice squad contracts, marking a significant development for these athletes who are striving to make their mark in the professional football arena.
One notable addition to the practice squad is safety Johnathan Abram, who brings his extensive experience to the team. With a career spanning 43 regular-season games and 36 starts, Abram has showcased his prowess on the field with impressive statistics, including 256 tackles, three interceptions, and 14 passes defensed. His dynamic presence promises to bolster the Saints’ defensive strategies and add depth to their secondary.

Wide receiver Lynn Bowden Jr. also joins the practice squad, having been drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020 and subsequently making appearances for both the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots. Bowden’s versatility as a receiver, rusher, and return specialist makes him a versatile asset for the Saints. Throughout his college career at Kentucky, he showcased his capabilities across various positions, accumulating impressive all-purpose yardage.
The linebacker corps receives a boost with the inclusion of Ryan Connelly, who has had prior stints with the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings. Connelly’s experience and skillset as a tackler and pass defender make him a valuable addition to the practice squad. The Saints are undoubtedly looking to tap into his potential for contributing to defensive schemes and special teams plays.
