New Orleans Saints Thursday Wrap Up: Injury Report and Roster Moves

by Noonie Jenkins Saints Contributor

As the New Orleans Saints gear up for their Week 3 clash with the Green Bay Packers during the 2023 NFL season, injuries have become a significant concern. Five key Saints players found themselves on Thursday’s Injury Report, raising questions about the team’s readiness for the upcoming matchup.

-Injury Report
Here’s a breakdown of the New Orleans Saints‘ and Green Bay Packers‘ injury status as of Thursday:

New Orleans Saints:

TE Foster Moreau (Ankle): Limited Participation (LP) on Thursday, an improvement from Did Not Participate (DNP) on Wednesday.
RB Jamaal Williams (Hamstring): Unfortunately, Williams continued to be a cause for concern, as he did not participate in practice on both Wednesday and Thursday.
QB Taysom Hill (Knee): Hill showed progress, moving from Limited Participation (LP) on Wednesday to Full Participation (FP) on Thursday.
RB Kendre Miller (Hamstring): Encouragingly, Miller maintained Full Participation (FP) throughout the week.
S Ugo Amadi (Knee): While Ugo Amadi did not practice on Wednesday, he was listed as Limited Participation (LP) on Thursday.
Green Bay Packers:

T David Bakhtiari (NIR-Rest/Knee): Bakhtiari missed both Wednesday and Thursday’s practices.
G/T Elgton Jenkins (Knee): Like Bakhtiari, Jenkins did not practice on either day.
RB Aaron Jones (Hamstring): Jones was Limited Participation (LP) on Thursday after missing practice on Wednesday.
LB Rashan Gary (Knee): Gary remained Limited Participation (LP) on both Wednesday and Thursday.
LB Lukas Van Ness (Elbow): Similar to Gary, Van Ness was Limited Participation (LP) throughout the week.
WR Christian Watson (Hamstring): Watson’s status took a turn for the worse as he went from Limited Participation (LP) on Wednesday to Did Not Participate (DNP) on Thursday.
P Daniel Whelan (Finger): Whelan was a Full Participant (FP) on both days.
S Zayne Anderson (Hamstring): After missing Wednesday’s practice, Anderson did not participate on Thursday.

Roster Moves
In addition to the injury updates, the New Orleans Saints made notable roster moves on Thursday. Executive Vice President and General Manager Mickey Loomis announced that linebacker Ty Summers has been signed to the active roster from the practice squad. Summers, a four-year NFL veteran, originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2019, had been with the Saints since Week 16 of the 2022 season.

On the other hand, running back Kirk Merritt was re-signed to the practice squad. Merritt, who went undrafted in 2020 and has appeared in NFL games for both the Miami Dolphins and the Saints, adds depth to the team’s roster.

Kendre Miller’s Pro Debut
Among the injury updates, rookie running back Kendre Miller‘s status is worth highlighting. Miller, a third-round pick, was listed as a full participant on the Saints’ injury report. This development comes as a positive sign for Miller, especially with Jamaal Williams dealing with a hamstring injury that might sideline him.

With Alvin Kamara serving a suspension and Eno Benjamin on injured reserve, Miller, along with Tony Jones, Kirk Merritt, and Jordan Mims from the practice squad, could play a crucial role in the Saints’ Week 3 game against the Green Bay Packers. This opportunity may mark a significant moment in Miller’s pro career, as he looks to make an impact in the absence of key offensive players.

As the Saints and Packers prepare for what promises to be an exciting Week 3 matchup, fans eagerly await further updates on the injured players’ statuses and hope for a successful debut for Kendre Miller on Sunday.
