The New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas finds himself on the sidelines once again as he has been placed on Injured Reserve due to a string of persistent injuries. This latest setback comes as a blow to the Saints, who were hoping to have their star receiver back in top form.
Thomas has been plagued by various ailments over the past few seasons, including hamstring and ankle issues in 2020, a season-ending ankle injury in 2021, and more hamstring problems along with a pedal toe dislocation in 2022. Despite his limited appearances on the field, Thomas managed to contribute 39 receptions, 448 yards, and one touchdown in 10 games this season.
The Saints are now facing the challenge of navigating their playoff push without one of their key offensive weapons.
In response to Thomas’s placement on Injured Reserve, the Saints have made roster moves to bolster their squad. Defensive back Cameron Dantzler Sr. has been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster, providing additional depth in the secondary.
Wide receiver Marquez Callaway, who has shown promise during his time with the Saints, has been signed to the practice squad. The Saints, currently in first place, will have to adapt and rely on their newfound depth to maintain their position in the league as they brace for Thomas’s absence, which will extend for at least the next four games of the 2023 season.
