With the preseason wrapping up, the New York Jets made seven cuts to their roster on Sunday. Among them was LB Jamin Davis, a former first-round selection top-twenty pick who’d been with them since the turn of the year.

New York announced their waiving of Davis in a release on Sunday. They did so amongst a list of seven total players that they removed from the team ahead of the regular season to get down to a 53-man roster by Tuesday this week.

“The Jets have released veteran LB Jamin Davis and waived six players: QB Adrian Martinez, DE Michael Fletcher, T Liam Forandel, TE Zach Kuntz, DB Tanner McCalister and RB Lawrance Toafili,” wrote Eric Allen this afternoon.

Davis, a linebacker out of Kentucky , was the No. 19 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Washington Football Team, and now since the Washington Commanders. He’d spent three and a half seasons with the Commanders, posting 282 total tackles, seven sacks, six deflections, two forced fumbles with a pair of recoveries, and two picks over 36 starts during 50 games played, before being released back in October of 2024.

A week later, Davis would spend time with the Green Bay Packers after signing with their practice squad before being claimed by the Minnesota Vikings, who he played in four games for with five total tackles and a sack before being released a month later. Then, a few days after his release by the Vikings, the Jets claimed him off waivers on New Year’s Eve and would later resign him to a one-year deal in March. However, five months later, Davis is back available again following his latest release ahead of the season’s start.

Davis, the former first-rounder, is still yet to turn 27 years old. That could make him an option still for another franchise in the future with him able to be added at some point amidst all the roster moves coming out of the preseason in the National Football League.
