Niners QB Brock Purdy (shoulder/toe; questionable) unlikely to serve as starter Sunday vs. Cardinals

Copied!

Brock Purdy is still working his way back from lingering shoulder and toe injuries.

The 49ers quarterback is officially questionable for their Week 3 game against the Arizona Cardinals but is “highly unlikely” to start, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters Friday.

Shanahan added that Purdy, who’s been limited in practice, could be in uniform as the backup quarterback or serve as the emergency third QB depending on how he looks Saturday.

With Purdy progressing but seemingly not slated to play unless absolutely needed Sunday, Mac Jones should start again for Kyle Shanahan’s offense. Jones completed 26 of 39 passers for 279 yards and three touchdowns in the Niners’ Week 2 win.
