No. 14 LSU cruised to a dominant 42-10 victory over South Alabama, showcasing their offensive firepower with a season-high 667 yards. Garrett Nussmeier led the charge, throwing for a career-high 409 yards while adding two rushing touchdowns. Freshman running back Caden Durham was electric, contributing 217 total yards and two scores, including an 86-yard burst to the 1-yard line.

LSU jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter, overwhelming South Alabama early. Nussmeier’s connection with wideout Aaron Anderson and the Tigers’ explosive plays set the tone for a blowout win that saw 11 different LSU players log at least one reception.
On defense, LSU shined even without star linebacker Harold Perkins Jr., with Greg Penn recording 14 tackles and Whit Weeks adding nine. South Alabama’s offense, which ranks among the top 15 nationally, was held in check for most of the game, only managing a field goal and a single touchdown.
Jaguars QB Gio Lopez had 171 passing yards and one score, but LSU’s defense tightened up when needed. With losses from higher-ranked teams, LSU is poised to climb in the AP Top 25 as they head into a crucial matchup with Ole Miss following their bye week.
