No. 22 LSU suffered a shocking 27-16 loss to Florida in Gainesville on Saturday, derailing hopes of a strong finish to their season. The Tigers struggled against a relentless Gators defense that recorded seven sacks, disrupting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and an offense that had been a strength all year.
Despite dominating time of possession in the first half and doubling Florida in plays, LSU’s offense faltered in key moments, including a costly fumble in the third quarter that swung momentum in Florida’s favor. Nussmeier finished with 260 yards on 27-of-47 passing and a touchdown but was visibly hampered by constant pressure from Florida’s front seven.
The loss marked a disappointing turn for LSU under head coach Brian Kelly, whose streak of 10-win seasons officially came to an end. While the Tigers entered the game poised to reestablish themselves as SEC contenders, three consecutive losses to Texas A&M, Alabama, and Florida now leave them at 6-4 with postseason aspirations fading.
With fan frustrations mounting, LSU must regroup quickly as they host Vanderbilt next week in what feels like a must-win game to salvage any positive momentum heading into the offseason.
