Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered an injury on Sunday, and head coach Andy Reid shared an update. After the Chiefs lost to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Reid told reporters that Mahomes will undergo an MRI on his left knee.
“It didn’t look good,” Andy Reid said, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. That’s not a good outlook from Reid, as Patrick Mahomes is a big reason the Chiefs have played in five Super Bowls since 2018. It’s likely he will miss the rest of this season since Kansas City is eliminated from playoff contention, but if the knee injury is serious, Mahomes could miss the start of the 2026 season.
When Mahomes suffered the injury, he was trying to rally the Chiefs to a much-needed victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. But when Chargers defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand brought down the three-time Super Bowl champion late in the fourth quarter, Mahomes left the game and was replaced by Garner Minshew , who threw an interception to give the Chargers the 16-13 victory.
Entering the 2025 season, Mahomes and the Chiefs had Super Bowl aspirations since they made the championship game the last three seasons. They were looking to bounce back from the Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in February, but could never get any real momentum going this year.
