Payton unsure if Dez Bryant returns to Saints in 2019

Dez Bryant lasted just two practices with the Saints when the wide receiver suffered a season ending Achilles injury shortly after landing with the team in one of the season’s most impactful signings.

He never had a chance to take the field in the black and gold, and whether or not he does in the future remains a very open question, according to Saints head coach Sean Payton.

The coach was decidedly non-committal on the idea of Bryant coming back in 2019.

“I wouldn’t be able to forecast the future,” Payton said at the annual meetings.

That’s not exactly a ‘no,’ which technically leaves open the possibility that the Saints will attempt to re-sign Bryant, but it’s not an enthusiastic declaration that he’ll return, either.

Immediately following Bryant’s injury, the Saints gave every impression of being open to signing him back for the coming season, but a lot has transpired from then to now, and the team has already made some notable investments, in tight end Jared Cook, running back Latavius Murray, center Nick Easton, defensive tackle Malcom Brown, and defensive lineman Mario Edwards.
