The New Orleans Pelicans have provided crucial medical updates on several of their key players, shedding light on their road to recovery as the 2023 NBA season approaches. Guard Jose Alvarado, forward Larry Nance Jr., and forward Trey Murphy III are the focus of these updates.

Jose Alvarado’s Right Ankle Sprain:

During an offseason workout, guard Jose Alvarado sustained a right ankle sprain, which had fans concerned about his readiness for the upcoming season. However, the Pelicans’ medical team expects him to return to basketball activities in approximately 2-3 weeks. Alvarado, who had an impressive rookie season and appeared in 61 of the regular season’s first 62 games, had previously been sidelined by a stress reaction in his right tibia. This latest setback comes as a test of his resilience as he aims to regain full health and contribute to the team once again.

Larry Nance Jr.’s Ankle Recovery:

Forward Larry Nance Jr. received a biologic injection to expedite the healing process in his left ankle. This strategic medical intervention is expected to ensure Nance’s full recovery before the commencement of the regular season, with an anticipated return to basketball activities also in approximately 2-3 weeks. Nance had already played in 65 games last season but had missed some time due to ankle soreness. The injection he received ahead of training camp is believed to address any lingering soreness and pain stemming from prior injuries, potentially allowing him to perform at his best.

Trey Murphy III’s Knee Surgery:

In a significant development, the Pelicans announced that forward Trey Murphy III underwent a successful partial meniscectomy and received a biologic injection in his left knee. Dr. David Altchek at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York conducted the surgery. Although this procedure signals a more extended recovery timeline, Murphy III is expected to make a full recovery. Fans can anticipate his return to basketball activities in approximately 10-12 weeks. The Pelicans will undoubtedly miss Murphy’s versatility and contributions during his absence, but his long-term health is the priority.

These medical updates come as a mix of hope and concern for the New Orleans Pelicans and their fans.
