New Orleans Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram, long the subject of trade speculations, could soon be on the move. According to “The Stein Line,” the contract extension terms desired by Ingram’s camp have not materialized from the Pelicans, prompting the organization to explore trade options. This potential trade aligns with the Pelicans’ broader strategy to re-sign emerging star Trey Murphy III and strengthen their frontline, especially with Jonas Valanciunas possibly heading to Washington.
The recent acquisition of Dejounte Murray from Atlanta hints at further significant moves by the Pelicans as they recalibrate their roster.
Several teams, including Sacramento, Utah, Washington, and Chicago, have shown interest in Ingram. Sacramento’s front office, with insight from Alvin Gentry who coached Ingram in New Orleans, is particularly keen. The Kings have considered packaging Kevin Huerter and Harrison Barnes in a trade, although Keegan Murray is off-limits. Initially drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2016, Ingram found his stride in New Orleans, becoming a focal point after the Anthony Davis trade.
He led the Pelicans in shots per game in three of the past five seasons, averaging 57.4 games per season. A trade involving Ingram could address the Pelicans’ need for a starting center, with Lauri Markkanen and Walker Kessler being potential targets. Retaining fan-favorites like Herb Jones and Murphy III, along with their favorable contracts, will be crucial for the Pelicans in any upcoming negotiations.
