Pelicans Cooked by Heat 119-108, Extend Slide to 10 Games

By Rell Wright, Pelicans Contributor

The New Orleans Pelicans‘ season hit another low Wednesday night as they fell to the Miami Heat 119-108, marking their 10th consecutive loss in a slide that feels increasingly insurmountable. Trey Murphy III delivered an inspired performance with 34 points, tying for the third-highest output by a Pelicans player this season, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a red-hot Tyler Herro, who poured in 32 points for Miami.

Bam Adebayo nearly notched a triple-double with 23 points, nine rebounds, and 10 assists, showcasing the kind of all-around dominance New Orleans has sorely lacked. With CJ McCollum adding 22 points for the Pelicans, the team remained competitive but never led in the contest, a reflection of their ongoing struggles.

The loss comes on a tragic day for the Crescent City, shadowed by an attack on Bourbon Street that claimed at least 15 lives, underscoring the emotional weight the Pelicans carried into the game. Still, on the court, New Orleans‘ issues are glaring. Now 1-20 in their last 21 games and having lost 15 straight on the road, the team’s once-promising season feels on the brink of collapse.

Despite Murphy’s emergence as a consistent scorer, the Pelicans’ inability to capitalize on individual brilliance or defend against star performances, like Herro’s second-half eruption from beyond the arc, remains a critical flaw. As the Pelicans prepare to host the Washington Wizards on Friday, a sense of urgency has never been more apparent, but the question remains: can they rediscover the spark that once fueled their ambitions?
