Pelicans Edge Mavericks 119-116 in Thriller, Win Second Straight

By Rell Wright, Pelicans Contributor

The New Orleans Pelicans continued their upward momentum with a hard-fought 119-116 victory over the injury-depleted Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night. Dejounte Murray led the charge with 30 points, while Trey Murphy III contributed a clutch performance with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and a pivotal, albeit controversial, block with four seconds remaining.

The win marked the Pelicans’ second consecutive victory and their third in four games, a significant turnaround after a challenging start to the season.

Despite missing star forward Zion Williamson, New Orleans capitalized on 17 Dallas turnovers, converting them into 24 points. Key contributions from Javonte Green (13 points) and rookies Yves Missi and Jordan Hawkins (12 points each) helped seal the win.

Dallas, playing without Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving, relied on career-high efforts from Daniel Gafford (27 points, 12 rebounds) and strong showings from Jaden Hardy (21 points) and Spencer Dinwiddie (20 points), but their late-game surge fell short. With a two-game series against struggling Utah up next, the Pelicans aim to build on their recent success and climb out of the Western Conference basement.
