Pelicans End Tough Season: Fall to OKC 115-100, Finish 21-61

By Rell Wright, Pelicans Contributor

The New Orleans Pelicans wrapped up a grueling season with a 115-100 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, concluding with a 21-61 record—the franchise’s second-worst finish in history. Battling injuries and limited depth, the Pelicans put up a valiant effort, led by rookie Antonio Reeves‘ 20 points and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl‘s double-double performance.

However, the Thunder, even while resting their usual starters, controlled the game from the opening tip, showcasing their depth and dominance in what became their best regular season to date. Despite flashes of resilience, including a third-quarter surge that cut the deficit to six, New Orleans could not match the Thunder’s energy, with Oklahoma City’s 21 second-chance points proving too much to overcome.

This season-ending defeat not only highlights the Pelicans’ struggles on the court but also signals an offseason filled with uncertainty. With whispers of executive David Griffin’s potential departure and questions surrounding head coach Willie Green’s future, changes seem inevitable. The Pelicans’ inability to sustain success, plagued by injuries and inconsistency, leaves fans hoping for a fresh direction.

As league chatter about Joe Dumars potentially joining the organization grows louder, the offseason could bring a much-needed shake-up to a franchise that has fallen far short of its aspirations. For a team once brimming with promise, this summer will be pivotal in determining if the Pelicans can finally turn their fortunes around.
