Pelicans Fall to Cavaliers 131-122 Despite Zion’s Return

The New Orleans Pelicans couldn’t quite overcome the red-hot Cleveland Cavaliers, falling 131-122 in a hard-fought battle on Wednesday night despite the return of Zion Williamson and a sharp shooting night from Jose Alvarado. Zion, back after a two-game absence, put up 29 points, including 23 in the second half, giving the Pelicans a much-needed boost.

Alvarado was electric from beyond the arc, hitting all seven of his 3-point attempts en route to a 27-point performance, while Brandon Ingram contributed 20 points. Though New Orleans surged at times and showed flashes of resilience, Cleveland’s potent offense ultimately held them off down the stretch.

Missing several key players due to injuries, the Pelicans struggled to keep pace with the Cavaliers, who shot 54.2% from the field and an impressive 48.6% from three. Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell led the way with 29 points, and the Cavaliers’ bench outscored the Pelicans’ reserves by 50-37.

New Orleans managed to close the gap to six points late in the game, but Mitchell’s steady scoring and Cleveland’s relentless attack sealed the Pelicans’ third consecutive loss and sixth defeat in their last seven games. Despite the setback, the Pelicans demonstrated heart and effort, with Friday’s game against Orlando offering a chance to regroup and get back on track.
