Pelicans Get Revenge on Lakers 129-109
by Rell Wright/Pelican Contributor
In a thrilling display of skill and determination, the New Orleans Pelicans exacted sweet revenge on the Los Angeles Lakers with a decisive 129-120 victory. The dynamic duo of Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram led the charge, each contributing a remarkable 26 points. This win was especially satisfying for the Pelicans, as it came against a Lakers team that had previously trounced them 133-89 in the In-Season Tournament semifinals.

The Lakers, reeling from a narrow loss to Minnesota just the night before, couldn’t find their footing against the well-rested Pelicans. Despite LeBron James‘ impressive 34-point performance and Anthony Davis‘ double-double, the Lakers’ efforts fell short. The absence of key Pelicans 3-point shooter Trey Murphy III didn’t hinder the team; CJ McCollum dazzled with six 3-pointers, contributing a total of 22 points. Herb Jones and Jonas Valanciunas added to the scoring spree with 13 points each.
What set the Pelicans apart was their exceptional 3-point shooting accuracy, hitting 50% from beyond the arc. Jose “Grand Theft” Alvarado was a force to be reckoned with, his four steals and two blocks underscoring a robust defensive effort. His audacious steals from James and Davis were crowd-pleasers, epitomizing the Pelicans’ tenacious spirit. Larry Nance Jr.’s double-double, achieved in just his second game back from injury, further bolstered the team’s performance.
This victory was more than just a game for the Pelicans; it was a statement. They showcased their ability to rise to the occasion and perform under pressure, responding to each Lakers’ comeback attempt with poise and precision.
