New Orleans Pelicans GM Trajan Langdon is once again a contender for an executive position, this time with the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons have been methodical in their search for a new front office leader, initially facing setbacks when the Milwaukee Bucks denied permission to interview their team president Jon Horst, and former Trail Blazers executive Neil Olshey declined an invitation. Now, the Pistons are considering new candidates, including Langdon, Mavericks consultant Dennis Lindsey, and Bulls general manager Marc Eversley, as “viable targets” for the role.
Langdon’s potential move comes on the heels of recent secret contract extensions for himself Head Coach Willie Green and VP of Basketball Operations David Griffin, although the specifics of these extensions remain undisclosed. There is speculation about whether Langdon is receiving due recognition for his contributions to the team, or if it’s simply time for him to advance in his career. This marks the third time in recent years that Langdon has been in the running for top executive positions, having previously been considered by the Charlotte Hornets and Washington Wizards. Should Langdon depart, Pelicans Assistant GM Bryson Graham is expected to step in.
Meanwhile, the Lakers are intensifying their search for a new head coach, with Pelicans top assistant James Borrego emerging as a prime candidate. Borrego, who has been instrumental in developing a top-10 offense by utilizing Zion Williamson as a point forward, previously served as head coach in Charlotte and interim coach in Orlando.
