Pelicans grind out win over Grizzlies 96-87

by Rell Wright/Pelican Contributor

The New Orleans Pelicans secured a hard-fought 96-87 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, exacerbating the Grizzlies’ losing streak to nine consecutive games. In a game that showcased the Pelicans’ resilience, Herbert Jones led the charge with 17 points, closely followed by Brandon Ingram, who contributed crucially with 16 points, including key scores in the game’s closing stages. Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum added 14 and 11 points, respectively, aiding the Pelicans in clinching their second consecutive win.

Despite a challenging game marked by fluctuations in performance, the Pelicans’ defense stood tall, particularly in the final quarter, ensuring the Grizzlies’ late surge fell short. Jaren Jackson Jr. was the standout performer for Memphis, scoring 22 points, but the collective effort wasn’t enough to overturn the Pelicans’ lead.

The game also highlighted contributions from Memphis’s Yuta Watanabe, who impressed in the fourth quarter, and the Pelicans’ bench, which played a pivotal role in extending their lead during the second quarter. As the Pelicans look forward to their next game against the Wizards, the Grizzlies continue to search for a formula to end their losing streak amidst a challenging season.
