The New Orleans Pelicans have added another layer of depth to their frontcourt by signing undrafted Providence big man Josh Oduro. Oduro, who earned All-Big East Honorable Mention honors as a fifth-year senior, had an impressive final season, averaging a career-high 15.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, two assists, and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 52.7% from the field.

His consistent performance placed him 10th in the conference in scoring and seventh in both rebounds and blocks. Oduro showcased his scoring skills with nine 20-point performances, highlighted by a season-high 32 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists in a win over Creighton on February 7. He was one of only five players in the nation to achieve such a stat line in a single game this season.

Before transferring to Providence in March 2023, Oduro spent four years at George Mason, where he was a two-time All-Atlantic 10 selection. At George Mason, he averaged 12 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and one block across 114 games, establishing himself as a formidable rim protector with his 7-foot-1 wingspan and athleticism.

Oduro’s ability to run the floor and protect the rim was particularly evident at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, catching the eye of the Pelicans’ scouts. With his addition, the Pelicans aim to bolster their interior defense and add versatility to their lineup, making Oduro a promising prospect for the team’s future.
