Pelicans ink veteran Big Daniel Theis

By Rell Wright Pelican Contributor

The New Orleans Pelicans are adding veteran center Daniel Theis on a one-year contract, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Monday. Theis, 31, played in 59 games with the LA Clippers after reaching a buyout on his deal with the Indiana Pacers last season. He averaged 6.3 points and 4.1 rebounds with the Clippers. Known for his defensive ability and versatility, Theis brings a wealth of experience to the Pelicans’ roster.

With his ability to protect the rim, rebound, and stretch the floor with his mid-range shooting, Theis is expected to provide valuable depth and leadership to a young Pelicans team looking to make a playoff push. His presence will also be crucial in mentoring the team’s younger big men, providing them with guidance and improving their overall defensive schemes.

The Pelicans took center Yves Missi with the No. 21 pick in last month’s NBA draft but did not make any other moves at the position before bringing in Theis.
