Pelicans Knock Off Spurs Again, 109-103

By Rell Wright, Pelicans Contributor

The New Orleans Pelicans showcased their resilience and grit in a thrilling 109-103 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night, completing a two-game home sweep. Trey Murphy III led the charge with an impressive 24 points, while Zion Williamson contributed 18 points, propelling the Pelicans to a hard-fought win.

Despite an ice-cold 7-of-31 performance from beyond the arc, New Orleans overcame a 19-point deficit in the first half by dominating the paint with a 66-44 scoring edge and leveraging timely plays on both ends of the court. Jordan Hawkins‘ driving layup early in the fourth quarter sparked a crucial 12-4 run, giving the Pelicans their first lead and setting the stage for their eventual triumph.

Yves Missi delivered a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and newly acquired Kelly Olynyk continued to make an immediate impact, hauling in 12 rebounds. Their contributions proved vital in securing the victory, especially against a scrappy Spurs team led by Devin Vassell’s 20 points.

New Orleans‘ defense capitalized on De’Aaron Fox’s struggles, forcing six turnovers, including a critical up-and-down violation in the final seconds. The Pelicans’ ability to adapt, outwork their opponent in the paint, and execute under pressure exemplified their tenacity, providing a thrilling finish for the home crowd and another step forward in their pursuit of postseason success.
