Pelicans’ Nance, Zeller, and Alvarado Progress Ahead of Season Opener

by Rell Wright/Pelican Contributor

In a recent practice session, the New Orleans Pelicans witnessed encouraging signs as Larry Nance Jr. and Cody Zeller engaged in full-contact drills, signaling their readiness for the challenges of the regular season. Head Coach Willie Green confirmed their participation and provided updates about the team’s preparations. Jose Alvarado, however, was a limited participant due to an ankle sprain, but he remains optimistic about his availability for the season opener.

Despite his limited activity, Alvarado’s potential return is eagerly anticipated, with Brandon Ingram, Pelicans’ star forward, highlighting Alvarado’s significance. Speaking to Christian Clark of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Ingram said, “He’s a big piece for our team, especially on the defensive side of the basketball. He brings us energy.

He’ll be good for our second group, just trying to run our second group.” However, not all news from the Pelicans’ camp is positive; the team will miss the services of Naji Marshall and Trey Murphy when the season begins. Marshall recently suffered a bone bruise and hyperextended his right knee during a preseason game, which further underscores the importance of Alvarado’s hopeful return to the lineup.
