Pelicans Routed by Pistons in Embarrassing 127-81 Loss

By Rell Wright, Pelicans Contributor

The New Orleans Pelicans suffered a crushing 127-81 defeat at the hands of the Detroit Pistons on Monday night, marking their seventh loss in eight games. Despite Zion Williamson’s impressive 30-point performance, along with six rebounds and two blocks, the Pelicans were unable to overcome their shooting woes.

Yves Missi added a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks, but the team’s dismal 32.6% shooting from the field and a woeful 5-for-32 effort from beyond the arc sealed their fate. Detroit’s stifling defense and relentless scoring, spearheaded by Cade Cunningham’s 24 points and eight assists, left New Orleans playing catch-up from the start.

The Pistons seized control early with a dominant 24-5 run spanning the first and second quarters, highlighted by Dennis Schroder’s layup that extended the lead to 41-14. Simone Fontecchio’s hot hand off the bench, where he scored 23 points on 9-for-10 shooting, including a perfect 5-for-5 from three, compounded the Pelicans’ struggles.

Meanwhile, Detroit dominated the boards with a 50-39 rebounding advantage, further exposing New Orleans’ weaknesses.
