Pelicans Secure 110-98 Victory Over Wizards, Win Two in a Row

By Rell Wright | Pelicans Contributor

The New Orleans Pelicans defeated the Washington Wizards 110-98 on Sunday night, clinching their second consecutive win and sweeping the home-and-home series. CJ McCollum led the charge once again with 25 points on an efficient 9 of 18 shooting, including 6 of 11 from beyond the arc.

Dejounte Murray was a force on both ends of the court, notching his 20th career triple-double with 14 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds. Trey Murphy III added 22 points to help solidify the Pelicans’ victory.

New Orleans (7-29) made a significant leap in the standings by surpassing Washington (6-27) in this battle of the league’s bottom two teams. After enduring a grueling 11-game losing streak, the Pelicans seem to have rediscovered their form.

They showcased versatility by winning in contrasting styles—a high-scoring duel on Friday (132-120) and a defensive grind on Sunday. Despite the absence of key players Zion Williamson (hamstring) and Brandon Ingram (ankle), the Pelicans displayed remarkable depth and composure.

The game’s pivotal moment came during a 17-0 run that bridged the first and second quarters, giving New Orleans a commanding 36-22 lead. From that point forward, the Pelicans never looked back, controlling the game with steady defense and efficient offense.

With McCollum and Murray leading the way, and crucial contributions from players like Murphy, the Pelicans are building momentum as they prepare for Tuesday’s clash against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
