Pelicans Stumble as Magic Dominate in Lopsided 115-88 Defeat

By Rell Wright, Pelicans Contributor

The injury-ravaged New Orleans Pelicans endured another tough night, falling to the Orlando Magic 115-88 on Friday. Missing star forward Zion Williamson along with five other key players, the Pelicans struggled to keep up with a rejuvenated Magic squad that snapped their own five-game losing streak.

Despite a valiant effort from Brandon Boston Jr., who scored 26 points, and Jose Alvarado’s versatile performance (21 points, five rebounds, and five assists), New Orleans was unable to overcome their slow start. Orlando, led by Franz Wagner’s 27-point outburst, jumped to a commanding 24-point lead early on, capitalizing on their dominance inside the paint.

The Pelicans briefly showed signs of life, narrowing the deficit to 10 points after a spirited 17-1 run fueled by Boston and Alvarado. However, Orlando quickly regained control, with Jalen Suggs hitting a crucial three-pointer to halt New Orleans’ momentum.

The absence of Williamson was deeply felt, as the Pelicans’ offensive rhythm faltered throughout the game, contributing to their fourth consecutive loss and seventh defeat in eight games. With their roster depleted, New Orleans will look to regroup before facing the Brooklyn Nets at home on Monday, hoping to break out of this frustrating slump.
