Brandon Ingram has officially signed with Klutch Sports Group, led by renowned agent Rich Paul, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania on Sunday. This significant move comes amidst stalled contract extension talks and trade uncertainties between Ingram and the New Orleans Pelicans ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season. Previously represented by Excel Sports Management, Ingram’s shift to Klutch adds another star to the agency’s powerhouse roster.
Pelicans executive vice president David Griffin previously emphasized Ingram’s desire to remain in New Orleans, stating in June, “Brandon wants to stay here,” while also acknowledging financial realities that complicate such decisions. Ingram, the No. 2 overall pick of the 2016 draft, was originally with the Los Angeles Lakers but became a centerpiece in the 2019 Anthony Davis trade that sent him to New Orleans.
Despite his dynamic offensive output, including averages of 22.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists on efficient shooting splits this season, the 27-year-old forward’s tenure with the Pelicans has been marred by injuries, having missed double-digit games in each of his five full seasons. His production remains elite, earning him All-Star honors in 2020 and a five-year, $158 million max contract extension that November.
However, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst recently reported that finding a team Ingram would commit to extending with has hindered trade scenarios. With the Pelicans’ roster once again hampered by injuries to start the ’24-25 campaign, Ingram’s alignment with Klutch Sports may signal a pivotal turning point for both his career and the franchise’s future.
