Pels End Losing Skid with McCollum’s 50, Overpower Wizards 132-120

The New Orleans Pelicans ended their grueling 11-game losing streak in emphatic fashion, defeating the Washington Wizards 132-120 on Friday night. CJ McCollum led the charge with a sensational performance, tying his career-high with 50 points, including 10 three-pointers. His offensive explosion not only fueled the Pelicans’ much-needed win but also sent a spark through the home crowd.

Trey Murphy added 17 points, and rookie Yves Missi made a significant impact with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Despite holding the league’s worst record at 6-29, New Orleans showcased resilience, breaking through a stretch that saw them win just once in their previous 21 outings.

For the Wizards, Jordan Poole’s 24-point effort was dampened by an injury scare after a hard fall late in the third quarter. While he managed to return, his scoring slowed significantly, finishing with only five points after the incident. Rookie center Alexandre Sarr contributed 19 points, but Washington’s struggles on defense and from beyond the arc proved costly.

Despite dominating the paint with 72 points, the Wizards couldn’t contain a hot-shooting Pelicans team that nailed 18 three-pointers, tying their season high. With both teams sitting at the bottom of the standings, New Orleans’ victory offers a glimmer of hope, bolstered by the return of Jose Alvarado, who provided key minutes off the bench. The two teams will meet again Sunday night in Washington.
