President Donald Trump reacts to Shedeur Sanders' first NFL start: 'Great Genes'

On Sunday, Shedeur Sanders became the first Cleveland Browns quarterback to win his first NFL start since 1995. Sanders looked stellar while leading the Browns to a 24-10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. On Monday, President Donald Trump couldn’t help but remind the nation of his previous support for Sanders.

“Shedeur Sanders was GREAT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Wins first game, career start, as a pro (for Cleveland). Great Genes. I TOLD YOU SO!”

In the win, Sanders completed 11-of-his-20 pass attempts for 209 yards and a touchdown, while throwing one interception. The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Browns.

It was a vindictive moment for Sanders, who suffered a shocking slide to the fifth round of the NFL Draft earlier this year. After Sanders went undrafted through the first two rounds of the draft, Trump took to social media to express his discontent.

“What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID?” Trump wrote ahead of Day 2 of the NFL Draft. “Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He’s also a very good coach, streetwise and smart!

“Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness. He should be ‘picked’ IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!”
