Raiders releasing DT Christian Wilkins after ongoing dispute over best course of action for his foot injury

Copied!

The Raiders are releasing Christian Wilkins, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday.

Wilkins, who was on the physically unable to perform list with an uncertain timeline to return, had been engaged in an ongoing dispute with the team over his injured foot and whether or not to undergo surgery, per Rapoport. According to Rapoport, Las Vegas wanted Wilkins to get surgery, while the 29-year-old declined to after several opinions.

It’s a shocking decision, considering Las Vegas signed the defensive tackle to a five-year, $110 million extension just an offseason ago.

His release will likely lead to some argument over his guaranteed money, as well, with Wilkins currently on the books for $57.5 million in full guarantees.

Heading into his seventh year, Wilkins has 372 career tackles with 22.5 sacks, 56 quarterback hits and four forced fumbles.

Around the NFL will have more shortly.
