Rams sign HC Sean McVay, GM Les Snead to multiyear contract extensions

The Los Angeles Rams announced on Monday that head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead have signed multiyear contract extensions.

One of the best arranged marriages of head coach and GM in recent years, McVay and Snead both signed contracts together in 2022 that kept them locked up through the 2026 season.

The Rams went 12-5 last season and made the playoffs, winning two games to reach the NFC Championship Game before losing to the Super Bowl-bound Seattle Seahawks.

Since he was hired as one of the youngest head coaches in league history in 2017, McVay — who turned 40 years old last week — has compiled a record of 92-57 (.617 win percentage). The Rams have made the postseason in seven of his nine seasons at the helm, earning a playoff record of 10-6 and two Super Bowl appearances in that span, including a victory in Super Bowl LVI over the Bengals to conclude the 2021 NFL season.

“It means a lot,” McVay said Monday of the extension alongside Snead. “I’m just really grateful. I’m grateful for our players and our coaches because these opportunities don’t present themself if you’re not around great people.

“It’s ownership, it’s other guys in the leadership group, it’s players, it’s coaches, and they deserve a ton of credit. I’m excited to be able to continue to build with them moving forward.”

Snead has been with the Rams since 2012, first serving as GM with then-head coach Jeff Fisher.

Even with Matthew Stafford‘s potential retirement a concern, Snead has helped build a strong roster for the Rams and has them potentially set up for a big offseason, with ample salary-cap space and draft picks. The Rams’ first-round trade with the Atlanta Falcons last year gives them two first-round picks this April, at Nos. 13 and 29 overall.
