Report: Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams makes massive decision on future

Early retirements in the NFL have become more en vogue in recent years, as players come to terms with the realities of playing in the league for a long time. Add Los Angeles Chargers receiver Mike Williams to the list.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Williams’ agent Tory Dandy informed the team on Wednesday night that his client is retiring from the NFL. Williams is 30 years old.

The veteran receiver spent eight years in the league, racking up 330 catches for 5,104 yards and 32 touchdowns. He also ran 10 times for 34 yards and a score.

Mike Williams had not started double-digit games in his last two seasons, as injuries took a significant toll. He played for three different NFL teams during his career, spending his first seven years with the Chargers before splitting time between two different teams in his final year.

Williams most recently played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, spending nine games with the squad after playing nine games for the New York Jets. He had 12 catches for 166 yards with the Jets before he landed with the Steelers.
