Report: Steve Sarkisian interested in potential head coach openings in NFL

Steve Sarkisian might have his sights set on the NFL. He’s been the leader of the Texas Longhorns since 2021, but Dianna Russini of The Athletic is reporting that the coach’s representatives have made it known that he’s interested in head coaching opportunities at the professional level, including the Tennessee Titans gig.

She made the news known on Saturday morning, ahead of Texas’ clash with Mississippi State : “I’m told that representatives for Texas coach Steve Sarkisian have let NFL decision makers know that he would be interested in potential head coaching openings, including the Titans,” Russini posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Sarkisian has spent time in the NFL prior. He was the quarterbacks coach for the Oakland Raiders in 2004, and the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator for two seasons in 2017 and 2018. Moving to the NFL as a head coach would be a massive change though.

It would certainly have merit though. Sarkisian has evolved into one of the more respected offensive minds and quarterback developers in the entire sport of college football, and NFL teams would love to see if that skill could translate to the next level.

If the Titans were his choice, he’d be able to work with the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft in Cam Ward . Tennessee is the lone opening at the moment, but there’s bound to be a myriad of others, with experts keeping an eye on the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, New York Giants and Cleveland Browns.
