The Dallas Cowboys drama surrounding Micah Parsons continued as Roc Nation fired back with a statement directed at owner Jerry Jones . Jones recently cited he did not want to deal with Parsons’ agent due to a previous situation with former wide receiver Dez Bryant.
Bryant took offense to that story from Jones and threatened to reveal more over “story time.” Parsons is currently at training camp for the Cowboys, but did not practice as of this weekend considering his desire for a new contract and official trade request.
Jones alluded to difficulty with Bryant’s representatives at Roc Nation, which includes rap superstar Jay Z. Roc Nation released a statement claiming Jones’ comments were false.
“In 2015, at the 21 Club, on a napkin, Jerry Jones, Juan Perez, Shawn ‘Jay Z’ Carter, and Stephen Jones negotiated a five-year, $70 million deal, which included a $45 million guarantee and a $20 million signing bonus for Dez Bryant,” the statement read. “At the time, it was the second-largest contract for a wide receiver in NFL history. The claim that Mr. Carter or Roc Nation representatives did not return a call from Jerry Jones is not only a false statement, but it’s also a comical one.”
Bryant went through his own negotiations with Jones back in the day. Ahead of the 2015 season, a five-year deal was signed by the wide receiver. This came after Bryant established himself as one of the best players in the NFL, inking a deal for $70 million.
Roc Nation was the agency representing Bryant at the time. Specifically, Jay-Z was in the middle of conversations involving Bryant and Jones. Jay-Z’s actions are eventually what soured how Jones felt about agents moving forward.
