Ryan Clark drops controversial take on Spencer Rattler amid Saints first win

by: Sam Gillenwater 12 minutes ago samdg_33

With the sudden retirement of Derek Carr this offseason, New Orleans was suddenly thought to have one of the worst quarterback situations in the NFL, with Spencer Rattler as well as Taysom Hill and their second-round rookie in Tyler Shough. However, with his play over the first five weeks of the season, Rattler may be justifying himself as a longer-term starting quarterback than once thought in this league.

Ryan Clark made that take on social media this afternoon after the Saints won 26-14 over the Giants. It may be going under the radar, but Clark thinks Rattler is earning his status as a starter in the NFL.

No one is paying attention, but Spencer Rattler deserves to be a starting quarterback in this league.

โ€œNo one is paying attention, but Spencer Rattler deserves to be a starting quarterback in this league,โ€ tweeted out Clark.

By no means has he been prolific this season in his second year with the Saints. Today also marked the first time in which he has ever won at all as a starting quarterback, improving to just 1-10 in his eleven career starts so far in the National Football League.

However, Rattler has been serviceable this season, posting 67.5% completion for 198 passing yards per game with five touchdowns and one interception. Thatโ€™s improved from last year during his rookie season, in a similar-enough sample size of seven appearances with six starts, when he completed just 57% of his throws for 188.1 yards per game with four touchdowns and five interceptions as part of eight turnovers in total.
