Saints Blank Patriots 34-0, improve to 3-2
by Niles Carpenter/Saints Contributor
In a dominating performance on the road, the New Orleans Saints blanked the New England Patriots with a resounding 34-0 victory. New Orleans showcased their domination on both sides of the ball, with an impressive display of offense and a suffocating defense that left Patriots quarterback Mac Jones struggling to find his footing. This lopsided win not only marked a significant victory for the Saints but also handed the Patriots their second consecutive loss under the helm of Coach Bill Belichick, raising questions about the team’s performance and future prospects.
The Saints’ offense was firing on all cylinders, with quarterback Derek Carr orchestrating a well-balanced attack. Running back Alvin Kamara played a pivotal role, punching in his 73rd career touchdown and contributing to a rushing game that accumulated 80 yards. Carr’s 183 passing yards, combined with Michael Thomas’s four receptions for 65 yards, ensured that the Saints outgained the Patriots by a considerable margin, with a total yardage of 304 to 156. This win allowed the Saints to snap a two-game losing streak and reaffirm their competitiveness in the league.
On the defensive side, the Saints were equally impressive, intercepting Mac Jones twice, including a 27-yard pick-six by Tyrann Mathieu. Cameron Jordan‘s fumble recovery set up another score for New Orleans, highlighting the defense’s ability to create turnovers and capitalize on them. The Patriots, meanwhile, struggled to generate any offensive momentum, with Jones ultimately benched in the fourth quarter in favor of backup Bailey Zappe. This result was not only a significant blow to the Patriots’ record but also marked the second-worst shutout loss in the franchise’s history. The Saints face the Houston Texans on the road next week who lost to Atlanta today 21-19.
