Saints Break Cowboys’ Home Streak as Alvin Kamara Shines in 44-19 Rout

The New Orleans Saints delivered a statement win, snapping the Dallas Cowboys‘ 16-game home regular-season winning streak with a dominating 44-19 victory on Sunday. Derek Carr was in peak form, throwing for 243 yards and two touchdowns, while also sneaking in a 1-yard score. The Saints (2-0) started hot, scoring touchdowns on their first six drives, a week after their franchise-record start of nine consecutive scoring possessions in a rout against Carolina.
Alvin Kamara was a force to be reckoned with, recording four touchdowns, including a stunning 57-yard catch-and-run on a screen pass. The Saints amassed 432 yards, scoring 40+ points in consecutive games for the first time since the 2018 season when Sean Payton called the shots for quarterback Drew Brees.
New Orleans’ offense overwhelmed the Cowboys’ defense early, putting Dallas in a precarious position. The Cowboys, who had previously stifled Cleveland to just 54 yards before halftime in their 33-17 victory, couldn’t replicate that success. They surrendered two passing touchdowns longer than 54 yards before the half — a 70-yard deep strike to Rashid Shaheed and Kamara’s remarkable screen pass. It was a night to remember for Saints’ offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak in his debut as the play-caller, as he outdueled the Cowboys’ veteran defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. Kamara’s long touchdown brought back memories of his six-TD performance against Zimmer’s Vikings in 2020.
Dallas attempted to keep pace with a 65-yard touchdown from CeeDee Lamb, but quarterback Dak Prescott struggled, throwing two interceptions. The first of these came when Jalen Brooks slipped on his route, allowing Paulson Adebo to return the interception 47 yards, setting up Carr’s 1-yard sneak that extended the lead to 35-13. The Saints’ defense held firm, despite injuries to key players, including CB Marshon Lattimore (hip and hamstring) and TE Taysom Hill (chest). With this victory, the Saints look to carry their momentum into next Sunday’s home game against Philadelphia.
