The New Orleans Saints have made the decision to part ways with wide receiver Bryan Edwards. Following his brief stint with the team, the Saints waived the former third-round pick on Tuesday. The move comes after the Saints had signed Edwards to a contract worth $1.1 million, which lacked any guarantees.
The 24-year-old receiver, who had spent the previous season with the Falcons, found himself in a competitive receiving corps within the Saints’ roster, featuring names like Chris Olave, Michael Thomas, Rashid Shaheed, Tre’Quan Smith, Lynn Bowden, and sixth-round rookie A.T. Perry.
Edwards had originally been drafted by the Raiders in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Edwards didn’t do enough to distinguish himself from the rest of the wideouts plus his involvement in pick penalties that stifled touchdown drives in the Saints Chargers preseason game was noticeable.
With his release, Edwards now has the possibility of being claimed off waivers by another team keen on bolstering their receiver talent pool.
