With Reid’s extensive experience, including 59 consecutive starts and two Super Bowl victories during his tenure with the Chiefs, he arrives in New Orleans as a cornerstone piece of a defense that already boasts stars like Tyrann Mathieu. The Saints clearly aim to replicate the success of elite defensive units by fortifying their secondary with Reid’s blend of leadership and athleticism.
Reid’s addition isn’t the only sign of New Orleans doubling down on defense. The Saints also reached a deal with defensive end Chase Young, who agreed to a three-year, $51 million contract. Young, 25, brings both youth and potential, finishing last season with 46 pressures, tied for 11th in the NFL.
His relentless pass-rushing ability is expected to complement stalwart Cameron Jordan, making the Saints’ defensive line a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks. Additionally, New Orleans has acquired defensive tackle Davon Godchaux from the Patriots for a seventh-round pick.
